Order an official transcript in MyNBCE under My Exams, Exams, State Board Transcripts, and the NBCE sends it directly to the board. The first transcript is free and each additional state is $25. It shows only your most recent passing score on each exam, not your attempt history.
To get your NBCE scores to a new state board, you order an official transcript through your MyNBCE account and the National Board of Chiropractic Examiners sends it to the board directly. Your first transcript is free; each additional state costs $25, according to the NBCE's transcript page, and other processing charges may apply. A photocopy of your score reports or your certificate will not do. Texas and New York, for example, require the results to come from the NBCE itself.
How do I order the transcript?
The NBCE's instructions: log in to MyNBCE, go to My Exams, then Exams, then State Board Transcripts, and follow the prompts. You choose the board, pay any fee online, and the NBCE sends an official transcript bearing its seal.
What does the transcript show?
Less than people expect. The NBCE describes an official transcript as "a record of your most recent passing scores on all NBCE exams." It does not include a historical record of attempts, and the NBCE does not release scores below the passing score of 375 unless you specifically authorize it. So a board sees one passing score per exam you have passed, including Physiotherapy if you took it.
Two consequences:
- A missing exam is visible. If you never took Physiotherapy, or never passed Part IV, the transcript will not show it, and a board that requires it will mark the file deficient. See the NBCE Physiotherapy exam and Part IV.
- A board that asks for failed attempts needs your authorization. Some application forms ask about every exam attempt. Answer the question on the form truthfully even though the transcript will not show it.
What do specific boards require?
- Texas: "An individual shall request the National Board send directly to the Board a true copy of the results of each part" (22 Tex. Admin. Code § 72.6(b)).
- New York: applicants must have the NBCE submit official transcripts directly to the Office of the Professions verifying that all subjects on Parts I to IV were passed (NYSED chiropractic requirements page).
- Florida: NBCE results must be on file with the board, along with the rest of the supporting documents, before the board certifies an applicant (Fla. Admin. Code R. 64B2-11.001(3)).
- California: the state's Chiropractic Act, quoted in 16 CCR § 349, refers to the NBCE certificate "together with a transcript of grades."
When should I send it?
After the board has an application file to attach it to, and after your last required exam has posted. The NBCE notes that most states do not require a transcript until Parts I through IV are complete. Sending it too early means a second order when Part IV or Physiotherapy posts. Sending it to a board before you have applied can mean it sits unmatched. We usually order it the same week the application is filed, and we confirm with the board that it arrived.
How do I handle a name change since I tested?
Fix it at the NBCE before you order anything. A transcript under a maiden name, or a name spelled differently from the application, gives the board a document it has to match by hand, which invites a request for more information. The NBCE asks for name corrections by email to its support address with a photo of your driver's license, per its certificate ordering instructions. On the board side, attach your name-change document (marriage certificate or court order) to the application so the licensing analyst can tie the records together. The same applies to your college transcript and every license verification you request.
Is the NBCE certificate the same thing?
No. The NBCE issues a Certificate of Attainment after Parts I to IV, and separate certificates for Physiotherapy and Acupuncture. The first is free and additional copies are $30. It is for your wall. The NBCE also cautions that it does not license or certify chiropractors, and that the old "Diplomate" title applies only to those who completed Parts I and II through the March 1983 administration. Do not describe yourself as an NBCE diplomate on an application unless that is you.
Transcript ordering, confirmation of receipt and follow-up with the board are part of every License by Endorsement ($499 per state) and Full State License Application ($749 per state) we handle. NBCE fees are paid to the NBCE. Each board's exam requirements are listed in our state license index.
Common questions
- How much does it cost to send NBCE scores to a state board?
- Your first transcript is free. Each additional state is $25, and the NBCE notes other processing charges may apply.
- Can I send my own copy of my NBCE scores?
- Generally no. Texas and New York require the NBCE to send results directly, and Florida needs NBCE results on file before certifying an applicant.
- Does the NBCE transcript show failed attempts?
- No. It shows your most recent passing scores. Scores below 375 are released only if you specifically authorize it.
- When should I order the transcript?
- Once your application is filed and all required exams have posted. Most states do not need it until Parts I through IV are complete.
