What chiropractors miss in Louisiana

Can a chiropractor licensed in another state get a Louisiana license by endorsement?

A reciprocity license is available to a DC with five consecutive years of active, good-standing practice in another jurisdiction immediately before applying; that route waives the NBCE requirement but not the rest of Louisiana's qualifications, including a bachelor's degree and the state jurisprudence exam.

  • Endorsement route available
  • 5 years of practice required

Citation: La. R.S. 37:2808

Which exams does Louisiana require?

The statute requires NBCE Parts I, II, III and IV plus a further NBCE part (the board reports this as Physiotherapy), and the Louisiana jurisprudence exam at 75 percent with one retake. Licensure must follow within six months of the jurisprudence exam.

  • NBCE Parts I–IV
  • NBCE Physiotherapy exam
  • State jurisprudence exam

What else does the Louisiana board check?

  • Fingerprint background check

Does Louisiana offer a temporary or travel-to-treat permit?

A new graduate who meets the education and NBCE requirements may intern under a Louisiana DC, who must be in the same office, for up to six months or until the next board exam.

  • Temporary permit available

Citation: La. R.S. 37:2806

Does Louisiana regulate chiropractic assistants?

Assistants who take chiropractic x-rays need a board certificate and an annual x-ray certificate registration; the fee schedule sets both.

  • Chiropractic assistant x-ray certificate

How often does a Louisiana chiropractic license renew?

Renew every year by December 31, with a delinquent fee after that. The board reports 15 CE hours a year, including ethics and risk management, plus six extra risk management hours in even-numbered years.

  • Renews every year
  • 15 CE hours per cycle
